How much does a web site cost?
The short answer is, “It depends.”
It depends on what you want your web site and the internet to do for you and how prepared you are for us to create it together…
You can spend hundreds, you can spend thousands, and you can, over time and as it’s profitable, spend tens of thousands on a web site. I’ll help you determine what’s appropriate and cost-effective for you.
If you need an overhaul of your web site (particularly to meet the new search engine mandates of being easily viewed on mobile phones) then we’ll first choose the right technologies that stay up to date. Then we’ll port your current content and data over to the new web technologies without disrupting your current site.
If it’s your first web site, I commonly suggest we go in stages. Stone simple at first, but make it scalable, meaning your site can grow with no fuss or do-overs.
Two ways to get a quality web site:
Subscription — If you’re not exactly sure what you need or want, let’s put your site together in increments. First, we’ll build a very simple but good looking site that will get you into the search engines or better placed within them. [It’s easy to bite off more than can be chewed, that is, over-build a site and then have trouble keeping up with its capabilities. You don’t want “under construction” pages or features and functions that don’t work for lack of content (i.e. words, pictures, video/audio, freebies, products, et al.)]
Flat Development Fee:
Barebones Basic Web Site Design & Development
If you have your content ready to go and all you need is a simple new “electronic brochure” telling your audience who and where you are, your hours, and how to contact you then a new site design could be under $500 for a unique, lightly customized WordPress web site. You’ll get personal instruction on maintenance of your site such that you can continue adding content and pages. If you can modify a Microsoft Word document you’re automatically qualified to update your site.*
You’ll get the latest full version of WordPress with a wide choice of themes (layouts, colors, fonts, etc) we can customize further, plus a variety of useful plugins you can download and install.
On going costs: Web hosting, $45/quarter, plus a domain name at 15/year. Turnaround time: One to three days
Prices for further development depends on the amount of creative and technical work needed, i.e. copy writing, photography, graphics, and then the coding, research, installations, set-up and training needed.
* As a side benefit, I’ll show you how we can give you remote support just like we’re on site together — video conferencing, too.
Your initial consultation is always free.
