Think about what your audience types into Google

What would your potential customers type into Google to try to find you? Let’s say they don’t know your name, street, or web site. What exactly would they type into Google, Bing, or Yahoo! to find you? Go ahead and type the various combinations of those words or phrases into the search engines yourself. Are you in the first three pages of the search results? If you aren’t showing up, maybe I can help you.

You’ll find all sorts of consultants who claim they can get you on the first page. Some may be worthless. Some, according to what they charge, could be worthwhile. Many use out-dated methods that can result in outright damage to your site’s rankings. SEO can seem like a dark-art.

Three Keys to Search Engine Optimization (SEO):
  1. Keyword Research
  2. On Site Optimization
  3. Off Site Optimization

We’ll deal with keyword research for now. Just google “keyword research” and you’ll find yourself lost in a blizzard of marketing jargon and techno-babble. Be careful what advice you follow. If it’s more than a very few months old, it’s likely stale and to be questioned.

Facts are that web data is growing at an exponential rate and indexing, filtering and making sense of that data is everyone’s problem. Even Google can’t keep up. Have you noticed the “junk” listings often listed in results pages? Microsoft’s Bing.com made an entire prime-time TV ad campaign on that point.

Nonetheless, there are tools out there that can help you determine alternate and less competitive ways to market your business. Contact me and I’ll be happy to help you.
